About Us
Our Ethos
At The Lamb, our aim is simple. To provide excellent service, quality food and drinks in a friendly, relaxed and safe environment, day and night, business and pleasure.
History
There’s nothing more charasmatic than a pub steeped in history and The Lamb is no exception. 1864 saw the property (known as The Lambs - believed to be a tailors or jewelers shop) change its name to The Lamb Pub, owned by Lord Tredegar, with Ann Wood as the first licensee. With 150 years of history the pub has had many great landlords and apart from the 1920s and 1930s (war and great depression) there have only been six families who have looked after this wonderful pub for a total of 125 years!
More recently, The Lamb has seen some welcomed changes, with a complete facelift and the introduction of a new food menu. The refurbishment took place in June 2013 and has been a great success – a warm, comfortable place where food, drink, music and sport are high on the agenda.
Quality and Sevrice
We are proud of our recent accomplishments of the ‘Best pub in Newport City Centre’, plus one of only 3 pubs out of 1200 who have achieved a 100% score on service and standards. We believe that both customer and staff should enjoy themselves in a safe, comfortable environment with the best drinks offer, food offer and customer service we can provide.
Our staff are continually coached and trained and most have evolved though government schemes and current apprenticeships. We also encourage on-line training as much as the day to day running of the pub and maintaining standards. Our business relies on the quality and consistency of our offer. And People are the most important part of this – staff and customers alike.
Meet the Landlords...
Lewis Evans and Richard Davenport
In the Summer of 2016, The Lamb was taken over by two local lads, Lewis and Richard who want to restore the authentic pub atmosphere that The Lamb is renowned for and what Newport town centre needs. The Dragons captain is keen to promote the pub and make it a great place to come and enjoy the atmosphere whether a rugby fan or not!
Lewis and Richard are also partners in their joint business, Life Education Wales – an interactive, motivational and aspirational workshop that has been designed to challenge preconceived goals and dare pupils to dream.
